The Uruguayan-born 34-year-old, who became an Australian citizen earlier this year, will link up with the rest of Graham Arnold’s squad in Sydney after Glory’s home clash with Brisbane Roar on Saturday.

The Socceroos will take on Japan at Stadium Australia on Thursday 24 March before facing current Group B leaders Saudi Arabia in Jeddah on Wednesday 30 March.

Fornaroli has scored seven times for Glory this season, taking his tally for the club to 33 in 68 A-League games and his overall record in the competition stands at a remarkable 81 goals in 138 games.

He is in line to become the fourth Glory striker capped by Australia in the A-League era, following in the footsteps of Adam Taggart, Jamie Maclaren and Chris Ikonomidis.

The club also boated a host of Socceroos representatives during the days of the NSL, of course, including Jason Petkovic, Bobby Despotovski, Damian Mori and Scott Miller.
