Ferguson arrives in Perth

A big week for Perth Glory has been capped off with the arrival of new assistant coach Ian Ferguson.

A big week for Perth Glory has been capped off with the arrival of new assistant coach Ian Ferguson.

The former North Queensland Fury coach landed in Perth on Thursday, excited to be part Dave Mitchell-s team for next season.

“I-m comfortable with Dave. I-ve known him for such a long time and he-s someone I can trust.

“I know he-s going to have my back and I-m going to have his back so it-s defiantly a plus knowing Dave which is great,” Ferguson said.

A legend in Scotland where he won 10 league titles, 4 FA Cups and 5 League Cups with Rangers, Ferguson confessed he had no problems working as an assistant.

“It doesn-t bother me. Titles don-t bother me at all. We-re a team and we-re all in it together.

“Dave obviously makes the final decision and I-ll give him my best but dropping back was not a failure for me.

Ferguson admitted the goal was now simple, to deliver a Hyundai A-League championship to Perth.

“This is such a fantastic club with a fantastic history and we want to bring the glory back to Glory!”

With one spot remaining on the Perth Glory playing squad for next season, Ferguson confirmed the club is chasing Liverpool great Robbie Fowler.

“I believe Tony Sage will be speaking to Robbie tonight.

“I know Tony is very interested likewise Dave so we-ll see where that takes us, discussions are ongoing.

“He (Fowler) puts bums on seats, he got me 9 goals last season and I do believe if we can get Robbie in the right frame of mind and get him over here he-ll be a big plus for us.”

Ferguson also made another thing clear, he and Fowler have a very positive and strong working relationship.

“I do. A lot of people with hidden agendas made us out to be at each others throats and that was never the case, me and Robbie and have always had respect,” Ferguson said.
