Two more young guns re-sign with club

Perth Glory is delighted to confirm that defender Jacob Muir and forward Adam Zimarino have each signed one-year scholarship contracts with the club.

The WA locals both made their ISUZU UTE A-League debuts last season, 20-year-old Muir against Wellington Phoenix in April and Zimarino, also 20, in February’s away clash with Central Coast Mariners.

By the end of the campaign, Muir had made five starts, while Zimarino had featured on seven occasions and both players are now keen to continue their progress with the senior squad in 2022/23.

“I’m delighted to have signed with my hometown club, Perth Glory, for the upcoming season,” said Muir.

“It was a great experience making my A-League debut and playing with the A-League team in the back part of last season and I learned a lot from [Head Coach] Ruben [Zadkovich], Chris Coyne [Assistant Coach] and the senior players around me.

“I’m looking forward to working hard for the team and growing as a player while learning from the new and experienced players in the squad.”

Those sentiments were echoed by Zimarino.

“I’m excited to continue my journey with my hometown club that I grew up watching as a kid,” he said.

“I’m hoping to build on the games that I played last year and contribute to the team as much as I can.

“I think the coaching staff around us are taking the club in the right direction and will get the best out of us.”

Zadkovich, meanwhile, feels that the duo are more than capable of forging ahead in their respective careers over the next 12 months.

“Both Adam and Jacob have progressed really well in the time I’ve spent at the club,” he said.

“They both have a lot of scope to improve, but have already shown glimpses of real quality at different stages.

“Being home-grown Academy players, they both understand and appreciate the proud history of this club.

“I’m very excited to continue to play a part in their development as aspiring professionals and I think they both have a bright future in the game if they continue on their current trajectory.”

Glory Head of Recruitment Andy Keogh is similarly confident that Muir and Zimarino can make an impact again in 2022/23.

“I am delighted that Jacob and Adam are on board for next season,” he said.

“They both deserve this reward for their attitude and performance from last season and have an opportunity now to flourish in this exciting rebuild of this famous club.”

Both players featured regularly for the PGFC Academy First Team before being promoted into the senior side, with Zimarino scoring 12 goals during the 2021 NPL WA campaign and Muir skippering the side earlier this year.
