In a game of few chances, Glory were undone by a sturdy Canberra side who showed a clinical edge in front of goal as Emily Condon converted their only real opportunity of the entire game ten minutes into the second half.
That was the first goal Stephen Peters’ side had conceded in more than 300 minutes of football this season and despite their best efforts, they were unable to find a way back into the contest.
In warm conditions, neither side managed to create much in the final third over the course of a largely uneventful first half.
Glory certainly enjoyed the bulk of the possession, but Canberra’s robust defence only yielded two chances of note, with Susan Phinsongkham’s goalbound effort well blocked by Liz Anton and Emma Tovar’s long -range strike flying over.
The second half began on a similar note up until Condon struck what proved to be the decisive blow for the visitors.
The Glory defence were unable to clear their lines on the edge of the box, the ball broke kindly for Condon and she calmly picked out the corner of the net with a low shot.
Determined to hold on for a much-needed first win of the season, United challenged Glory to try and break them down in the final quarter and succeeded in keeping the women in purple at bay.
Despite the defeat, Glory remain second in the table ahead of next weekend’s clash with leaders Central Coast Mariners in Gosford.
