Perth Glory is delighted to confirm that striker Patrick Wood has joined the club on loan from Sydney FC for the remainder of the 2024/25 Isuzu UTE A-League season.
Now 22, Wood progressed through the Sky Blues’ youth ranks before making his ALM debut against Wellington Phoenix in January 2021.
His first senior goals arrived later that month as he bagged a brace in a 3-0 win over Macarthur FC and he would end that season having made 21 appearances and found the net four times.
Since then, the Australia Under-23 international has taken his tally of A-League games past the 70-mark and he is now looking forward to beginning a new stage of his football journey in the West.
“I’m very excited for the opportunity to join Perth Glory for the remainder of the season,” he said.
“I believe I can make a valuable contribution to the team, bring goals and lots of energy and help push the team up the competition table.
“I’m looking forward to playing up front alongside Taggs [Adam Taggart] and working once again with Zdrila [Head Coach David Zdrilic] who I worked closely with at Sydney FC.
“This opportunity presents a new challenge for myself and it’s one I’m willing to take with both hands.
“I’m excited to see all the Glory fans at HBF Park soon!”
Glory Football Director Stan Lazaridis believes that the arrival of Wood will greatly enhance the club’s attacking options.
“Pat is a livewire forward who has the pace to get in behind and a willingness to also work very hard out of possession,” he said.
“He’s extremely motivated to become a regular A-League starter and we believe that he will provide an ideal strike partner for Adam Taggart.
“This move represents a new challenge for Pat who has spent the whole of his senior career to date with Sydney FC and we’re really looking forward to seeing him fulfil the enormous potential that he undoubtedly has between now and the end of the season.”
Head Coach David Zdrilic, meanwhile, also feels that Wood can become a real favourite with the Glory faithful.
“I worked closely with Pat during my time at Sydney FC,” he said, “so I’ve seen first-hand what he’s capable of and how much scope there is to further develop and improve him as a player.
“He’s quick and mobile, plays off the shoulder of defenders, always puts in a big shift and can finish.
“I’m sure that his dynamic, all-action style and willingness to give his all for the team will resonate strongly with our Members and fans and his arrival will definitely boost our effectiveness in the final third as we look to kick on in the second half of the season.”
