Retro Corner – Just A Little Bit Of History Repeating Itself…

Thumbnail

Rummaging through a box of old Glory matchday programmes is always a thoroughly enjoyable experience and even more so when it throws up a quirky little historical parallel or two.

And today’s offerings do just that.

20 years ago this very week, just like their 2018/19 counterparts, Bernd Stange’s men had won three and drawn one of their opening four games to sit proudly on top of the ladder ahead of a Sydney team, in this case Sydney Olympic rather than Sydney FC.

And the programme for the second of the two back-to-back home games not only featured current club Community and Development Manager Michael Garcia on the cover, but also this shot of Goalkeeping Coach Danny Milosevic looking very fresh-faced on Page 15!

The two games featured both ended in victories for Glory, struggling Canberra Cosmos being swatted aside 5-1 and South Melbourne edged out 2-1 in front of a bumper crowd of over 18,000.

And in case your memory needs another jog, Vas Kalogeracos scored in both games and John Markovski helped himself to a brace against the Cosmos.

As always, Retro Corner is about you sharing your Glory stories and memories, so join the conversation via Twitter HERE, or our Facebook page HERE and let us know what you recall of the games and players featured (and whether Bernd’s appearance in the Mazda ad persuaded you to get yourself a 323!).
