Caitlin Doeglas marked her return to Glory and celebrated her 50th appearance for the club by scoring in the first half as Stephen Peters’ side battled out an entertaining 1-1 draw with Sydney FC on Friday evening.

The 28-year-old was only re-signed as an injury replacement earlier in the day, having last worn the famous purple in 2021 and she wasted no time whatsoever in reintroducing herself to the home fans at the Sam Kerr Football Centre.
25 minutes were on the clock when Sydney ‘keeper Tahlia Franco made a hash of her attempt to claim a loose ball in the box, Gabby Hollar pounced on it and found Doeglas who gleefully steered home her eighth career A-League goal.
Prior to that magic moment, Casey Dumont had produced two fine saves to keep Sky Blues’ striker Shea Connors at bay, firstly tipping a fierce shot from the American onto the bar and then foiling her again in a one-on-one situation.
The visitors were not to be denied in first-half stoppage-time, however, as for the second time in as many games, Lucy Johnson found the net with a spectacular, long-range strike.
Sydney proceeded to enjoy their best spell of the game early in the second half and Dumont again came to Glory’s rescue as she saved bravely at the feet of substitute Mackenzie Hawkesby, before parrying a shot from Princess Ibini.
But having weathered that storm, it was Glory who finished on the front foot, with substitute Ella Lincoln drawing a smart save from Brianna Edwards who had replaced Franco in the Sydney goal at half time.
And the hosts thought they had won it right at the death as Georgia Cassidy’s wind-assisted free-kick flew inches wide of the post with Edwards beaten.
