A last-minute goal from substitute Will Freney secured the PGFC Academy First Team a precious point as they fought out a roller-coaster 3-3 draw with Perth SC at a rainswept Sam Kerr Football Centre on Saturday.
The youngsters had earlier made the worst possible start, with Sam Cook firing the visitors in front from close-range inside the opening six minutes and Gordon Perkins then making it 2-0 after capitalising upon a defensive error.
Glory soon rallied, however, Laat Mathiang halving the arrears by slicing his way through the Perth defence before drilling a shot past Joseph Pollard into the bottom corner.
And by half time, Glory were level as Sebastian Despotovski converted from the spot after Samuel Barry had been tripped in the area.
Kenny Lowe’s side restored their lead early in the second half, Cook rounding off a swift counter-attack by claiming his second of the night, but the men in purple showed great character to hit back once again in the shadows of full-time.
As Glory applied some concerted pressure on the edge of the Perth box, the ball fell to the onrushing Freney who unleashed a spectacular, left-foot strike which arrowed its way into the net.
That late equaliser capped off a positive day for the senior Academy which began with the Under-18s securing a 2-1 win.
The Under-20s then also claimed three points via the same scoreline, Louis Sollitt grabbing an early opener before Christian Pullella celebrated his inclusion in the latest Joeys squad by scoring what proved to be the winner 14 minutes from time.
All three teams are at home once again next Saturday (15th June) when Inglewood United will provide the opposition.
The 18s will get the day underway at 11am, followed by the 20s at 1pm and the First Team at 3pm.
Many thanks to all our Members and fans who attended this weekend’s games.
