Glory to tackle CHAMPIONS in Canberra

The entire Perth Glory Westfield W-League squad will travel to Canberra for their crucial midweek fixture against champions Canberra United at Deakin Stadium tomorrow evening.

This clash is the re-arranged match from Round 6 due to Canberra-s participation in Japan-s inaugural International Women-s Club Championship.

It is the beginning of a tough away period for the Glory, with the team flying directly to Brisbane following this fixture for Saturday morning-s Round 8 clash with the Roar.

As it stands the Glory is still on top of the table with 15 points, with Canberra sixth and seven points behind the league leaders.

Former Canberra United defender Bronwyn Studman has been a key part of the Glory-s sound defensive structure since signing for Perth and says she has a point to prove on Wednesday evening.

After playing two seasons with United, Studman was overlooked for a contract last season and just trained with the club in their championship success.

“Personally, I definitely want to make an impact against them,” said Studman.

“There-s no doubt it-s going to be tough, but I think taking our whole squad over will be a big boost for depth just in case someone gets injured, which hopefully doesn-t happen.

“We are definitely fully prepared for this one and won-t be settling for anything less than three points.”

Despite two draws, Perth has never beaten Canberra in a Westfield W-League fixture, but Studman says the squad is eager to claim a historic victory.

“Their squad is virtually the same as last season, so it is surprising they have struggled a little this season,” said Studman.

“Having said that, we definitely won-t be taking them lightly and know how important it is to put in another great performance and hopefully win to set us up nicely for that finals appearance we are all chasing.”
