Five Glory players named in Young Matildas squad

Five Glory players have today been named in the COMMBANK Young Matildas squad for next month’s two-match international series against the New Zealand Junior Football Ferns in Canberra.

Hana Lowry, Abbey Green, Aideen Keane, Sofia Sakalis and Claudia Mihocic are all in line to feature for Leah Blayney’s side who will use the two games as preparation for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup which is set to take place in Costa Rica later this year.

All five made significant contributions during Glory’s most recent A-League campaign and Head Coach Alex Epakis is thrilled that they have been rewarded for their efforts with places in the 28-player squad.

“Ultimately I believe that we have the highest representation of any club within that camp,” he said, “and I think that speaks volumes in terms of the players’ progress that was made this season.

“The fact that those players now get an opportunity to be in front of national team staff is something that we should all celebrate and I’m personally extremely proud of their selection.”

Ahead of the international fixtures, the Commonwealth Bank Young Matildas will enter a pre-camp at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) from Thursday, 31 March and conclude on 12 April 2022.

The games against New Zealand will take place at Deakin Stadium on Wednesday 6 April (6.30pm AEDT) and Viking Stadium on Sunday 10 April (2.00pm AEDT).
