Glory Head Coach Stephen Peters has insisted that his charges will not underestimate out-of-form opponents Newcastle Jets when the two sides meet in Saturday’s Ninja A-League showdown at No.2 Sportsground (kick-off at 1:30pm WST, watch live and FREE on 10Play).

The Jets come into Saturday’s Round 17 four points and two places below Glory on the ladder off the back of a ten-game winless run stretching back to mid-December.
Glory, in contrast, have won each of their last two home games to keep their Finals hopes flickering, but Peters is taking nothing for granted as his side look to secure maximum points on the road for the first time this term.
“There were two performances there in the last month which were good, against Brisbane and Wellington and we’ve just now got to get the travel aspect right,” he said.
“Hopefully we’ll approach the game with a fresh mindset and fresh bodies and get our first away win of the season.
“I don’t think they [Newcastle] will change their principles much.
“They create a lot of chances and cause a lot of problems.
“You really have to be on your guard when you play against them as they turn it into a transitional battle and are quite a physical team.
“We need to be on our toes and definitely can’t look at the ladder and suggest that, just because they’re in that particular position and we’re in our particular position, we can take them lightly.
“It’s going to be a tough contest.”
Peters went on to reveal the key point he has been attempting to get across to his squad as they enter the final quarter of the campaign.
“The main message that we keep telling everyone is that it’s about getting that reward for effort,” he said.
“There are probably only three games this year where we can say that the effort wasn’t where we wanted it to be and outside that, we’ve had effort in every single contest.
“It’s about capitalising on that.
“In the Brisbane and Wellington games we were really at it for 90 minutes and scored three and two goals respectively at home and both occasions, that was good enough to get us the three points.”
The Head Coach went on to provide an injury update in which he confirmed that a quad injury will rule Ella Abdul Massih out this weekend, but Casey Dumont is closing in on a return to full fitness and both Georgia Cassidy and Susan Phonsongkham are on track to feature again before the end of the season.
As for the Jets, their solitary home victory this season came against Wellington back in Round 3 and in their last three outings, they have conceded 11 goals in defeats at the hands of Central Coast Mariners, Melbourne City and most recently, Western Sydney Wanderers.
Nonetheless, there have been some standout performers for Ryan Campbell’s side this term, including Sheridan Gallagher who has scored four times and midfield duo Josie Allan and Deven Jackson who have each claimed three.
Swiss import Lorena Baumann has been a mainstay at the back, starting every game and Libby Copus-Brown remains arguably their most influential midfielder.
Glory claimed the spoils when the sides met at HBF Park back in Round 2 and have not lost in the Hunter Valley since January 2019, with the last three meetings all ending in draws.
