ALM Match Wrap: Amos wonder-goal in vain as Glory slip to defeat against Roar

A stunning maiden A-League goal from Luke Amos could not prevent Glory from slipping to a home defeat at the hands of Brisbane Roar who came from behind to secure a 3-1 victory at HBF Park on Saturday evening.

Midfielder Amos picked out the top corner, via the underside of the bar, from 25 metres out with just seven minutes on the clock as Glory made the perfect start.

Roar were level by half-time, however, as Asumah Abubakar finished from close range and a second-half double from Sam Klein enabled the Queenslanders to avenge their home defeat against Glory in Round 9.

David Zdrilic’s side were straight onto the front foot right from kick-off and drew first blood in spectacular style as Amos’ long-range missile of an effort left Matt Acton clutching thin air in the Roar goal.

Tass Mourdoukoutas then just failed to touch home a Takuya Okamoto corner at the far post and Adam Taggart was brilliantly denied at close-range by Acton, even though the offside flag was eventually raised.

Roar had started to look threatening on the break, however and they struck back shortly before the break as, following some pinball in the Glory box, Abubakar managed to force home.

The Portuguese forward also had a hand in Brisbane’s second goal six minutes into the second half, heading a corner back across goal for Klein who crashed a volley past Oli Sail.

Glory responded by patiently building pressure on the visitors’ defence and came close to levelling things up when a cross from substitute Trent Ostler was palmed out by Acton only as far as Yuto Misao, only for the Japanese import to blaze over the bar when well placed.

Mourdoukoutas was next to go close for Glory, heading a Jaylan Pearman corner straight at Acton, but just as the men in purple looked poised to set up a grandstand finish by claiming a second goal, Roar broke away and bagged their third courtesy of a fine, curling strike from Klein.
