It’s shaping up to be an exciting few months for Adam Zimarino.
In addition to spearheading the PGFC Academy First Team’s drive for a top-four finish in the NPL WA, the young striker is also training with the A-League squad and aiming to seize any senior team opportunities that may come his way.
Zimarino has featured in each of the Academy First Team’s 15 fixtures thus far this term, helping himself to eight goals, three of which have come in the last three games.
And the 19-year-old is clearly enjoying this latest chapter in his fledgling career.
“I’ve been up and down over the season as a whole,” he said, “but the last couple of weeks have been good.
“I’ve been scoring and there have been plenty of positives.
“It [training with the A-League squad] is going to take a while to get used to.
“It’s a lot quicker than youth training, as you’d imagine, but it’s great to experience playing with the A-League boys.
“You have to be quicker on the ball and mentally quicker as well.”
Next on his agenda is a crunch NPL WA clash with Gwelup Croatia at Crazy Domains Stadium, Hartfield Park on Saturday and he is quietly confident that Ruben Zadkovich’s side can continue their impressive recent form which has seen them pick up 17 points from their last eight games.
“We’ve gone on a bit of a run and confidence is high,” he said.
“When we’re playing with confidence, I think with the talent in our side, we can push through any team.
“Now we need to keep pushing and get a result in what is a big game on Saturday.
“I think it’s going to be a physical game on what is quite a small pitch at Forrestfield, but I think if we get it down and play quickly, we should be able to get the three points.”
Every bit as impressive as his work rate, mobility and powerful left-foot shot is Zimarino’s trademark mullet and he feels that at least one of his Glory colleagues is attempting to cultivate a tribute effort.
“Josh Rawlins is trying to get to mine,” he said, “but he’s got a couple of months to go before he even gets close.
“He thinks his is longer already, but he’s no chance.
“He hasn’t quite pulled it off like me!”
The PGFC Academy First Team’s game against Gwelup Croatia will kick off at 3pm, following on from the Under-18s at 11am and the Under-20s at 1pm.
