New Perth Glory Youth midfielder Henry Hore will come against his former club on Sunday when the youngsters take on Brisbane Roar in Week 3 of the Foxtel Y-League Conference A at Dorrien Gardens (10.00am).
The 18-year-old made the move west from QLD NPL side Brisbane Lions FC over the off season having bagged nine goals from midfield in 20 appearances in the 2017 Flight Centre Premier League and he has fitted in nicely to his new surroundings.
“My old coach in Queensland and Glory Youth Head Coach John Gibson were talking about me, so I came and had a trial and I guess I went pretty well,” the midfielder explained. “I’ve settled in really well here and the lads have been great to me and were all very welcoming.”
Hore, who has played all his football in Queensland with both the Roar Youth side and the Lions, made his Y-League debut for Glory in their opening-round defeat against Adelaide United, but he felt that despite the loss, there were some positives to come out of the game.
“It was a really positive performance, especially in the second half, but what let us down was our finishing,” he said. “We were really disappointed we didn’t go away with a positive result after our performance.”
The talented central midfielder said the side are working extremely hard and they have all taken huge belief from what 16-year-old Jacob Italiano is currently doing in the Hyundai A-League side.
“Yes, that’s the goal for all of us, to make it as professional footballers,” he said. “So to see what Jacob has done, it gives us all greater confidence and belief to make it to that level.”
In terms of this weekend, Hore is looking forward to taking on the Roar and said it would be nice to get one over his former club.
“It would be great to get a result against them, but it won’t be easy as they are a good side,” he said. “We will have to perform again like we did last time out against Adelaide, but we have to add that clinical edge.”
Glory Head Coach John Gibson said Hore has been impressive in training and that he also played well in the opening game of the season.
“Henry slotted in seamlessly in the midfield as we handed nine players starting debuts in the Y-League, plus another two debuts of the bench against Adelaide,” he explained.
“We were pleased with the overall performance, but not the result, and ultimately our play in the front third, accompanied with three soft goals cost us dearly.
“But the group have recovered well and been positive at training and we are looking towards Sunday’s game against a good Roar outfit.
“But we’re always confident. We need to maintain consistency with our performance and produce a positive result.
“It’s always a tough encounter against Brisbane, whether home or away and the Y-League format is a sprint with games coming quick and fast, meaning every game is game on.”
