Match Preview – Glory in high spirits ahead of Coast clash

Glory Head Coach Kenny Lowe has confirmed that his squad are in upbeat mood ahead of Sunday’s Round 9 clash with Central Coast Mariners.

Gosford has not traditionally been a happy hunting ground for the WA side, but buoyed by last weekend’s impressive 3-1 win at Melbourne City, Lowe feels that his charges are capable of improving that record this time around.

“It’s always been tough there for us historically,” he said, “but the lads are focused and determined to change that on Sunday.

“Spirits are high in the group after a good week on the training ground and we are really looking forward to taking on the Mariners.

“I was particularly pleased for the young players that came in and did so well against City. They did a job for us and it means that we now have great competition for places which helps lift the intensity at training.”

The visit to Central Coast Stadium will bring to an end Glory’s gruelling opening third of the season which included six away games and Lowe is adamant that a positive result this weekend would set things up nicely ahead of next month’s consecutive home fixtures.

“We’ve done a lot of travelling,” he said, “and it’s been tough, but a good performance and result against the Mariners would leave us sitting in a decent position heading into the first part of the busy Christmas period.

“It’ll be tough because they are a good side that like to get the ball down and play, but we are going over there confident that we can get the job done.”

Glory downed the Mariners 2-1 at nib Stadium back in Round 3 with Andy Keogh and Adam Taggart both finding the net late after Dutch recruit Wout Brama had given the visitors an early lead.

Paul Okon’s side currently sit one point and one place below Glory on the Hyundai A-League ladder and have won only one of their four home games so far this term.
