With the start of the Hyundai A-League 2017-18 season now just four days away, what better way to whet the appetite than by picking out some of the highlights of what’s to come at our beloved nib Stadium?
Our opening home game against Central Coast on Sunday October 22nd will see our three Spanish amigos, Diego Castro, Andreu and Xavi Torres, play together on WA soil for the first time as we look to re-establish nib Stadium as the fortress that it has so often been in the past.
Five days later, it will be our Westfield W-League team that takes centre-stage as they tackle big-spending Melbourne City in an eagerly-anticipated re-match of last season’s Grand Final.
Sam Kerr and co will be playing under the Friday night lights (October 27th) at nib Stadium and as an added bonus, the second half of the A-League team’s away clash with Sydney FC will be shown on the big screens ahead of the W-League action.
With tickets priced at $15 for adults, $12.50 for concessions and $10 for kids, this is a bargain double-bill of football that you won’t want to miss!
A big Saturday night then looms on November 4th when Adelaide United, who have recruited strongly in the off-season, roll into town for what could well prove to be a thriller.
There’s another bumper double-bill to look forward to on Sunday November 19th when our A-League and W-League teams will again both be in action, this time against their Melbourne Victory counterparts.
The women’s game kicks off at 1.30pm, with the men following at 4pm and after the matches are over, you’ll have a unique opportunity to emulate your heroes by taking part in the popular post-game kick on the pitch.
If you need an injection of festive spirit in the build-up to Christmas, meanwhile, back-to-back home games against Newcastle Jets (Saturday December 9th) and Wellington Phoenix (Saturday December 16th) will provide plenty of that.
And there’s more good news given how expensive the festive season can be, because a special family bundle ticket offer means that you can access both of these games for just $99.
We’ll also be starting the New Year with a bang as Friday night football returns to nib Stadium when Adelaide pay us their second visit of the season on January 5th.
And just four days later (Tuesday January 9th), there’s another holiday treat in store as the hugely-popular ‘kids go free’ promotion returns for our game against Tim Cahill’s Melbourne City.
A spectacular first month of 2018 is rounded off on Sunday 28th with another double-header as our W-League and A-League sides face off against Western Sydney Wanderers.
This time it’s the men up first, at 5.30pm, with Bobby Despotovski’s side in action at 8.15pm.
Our only home game in February will see us attempting to maintain our hoodoo over Melbourne City (Saturday 24th February) and following that, the finals run-in will be in full swing.
Four of our last six fixtures are at home and with our fantastic members and fans right behind us, we’re confident that the Mariners (Saturday March 10th), Victory (Sunday March 25th), Sydney FC (Saturday March 31st) and our old nemesis, Brisbane Roar (Saturday 14th April), can all be put to the sword.
It promises to be another year of thrilling action and edge-of-your-seat drama here in the West and there is nothing beats being there to see it live and unfiltered and to feel the purple passion!
