Perth Glory skipper Jamie Coyne said accountability from each and every player will be key ingredient in taking the points against league leaders Melbourne Victory.
The Glory has been stung in recent matches by small lapses in concentration and the coaching staff are working with players one-on-one to eradicate those slip ups from their game.
“We had a couple of defensive mix-ups and the opposition have capitalised on them,” Coyne said.
“It’s just the little things we have to tweak. We are not that far off the pace but if you make mistakes people are going to punish you for it.
“As an individual you’ve got to hold your hand up if you make a mistake and try to correct the mistakes you are making,” said Coyne.
Perth-s defence has come under scrutiny in the opening six rounds after conceding 16 goals and will have to be on their toes against a Victory attack that has plenty of potency in front of goal with Archie Thompson and Danny Allsopp.
“They are two very good players, probably the best combination in the league,” Coyne said.
“If you can play well against them you know you are doing quite well. Archie’s very small, quick and agile, and Danny’s six foot two (188cm) and built like a horse, but very athletic so it-ll be a challenge for us to contain their styles of play.”
While Perth will hope to lock down Melbourne-s attack the Glory have quality goal scoring options of their own with new recruit Eugene Dadi scoring four in his opening six matches and young star Nikita Rukavytsya with a glint in his eye after hitting the back of the net last weekend.
“Melbourne haven-t conceded too many goals but we feel with Eugene playing quite well and with Nikita’s pace we might be able to expose them at the back and will be looking to make the most of all our opportunities,” said Coyne.
