Stat Attack: City v Glory

When it comes to stats, there is a lot to like about this fixture from a purple perspective.

So how about we continue the build-up to Wednesday’s AAMI Park showdown by dwelling on a few of those and casting in the odd favourable one for City just to try and maintain the illusion that we are in some way objective?

Top Tackler Timmins

Midfielder Callum Timmins is Glory’s joint-best tackler this season along with Darryl Lachman, both of whom have won 11 challenges.

Brandon O’Neill is next-best with 10.

The Story So Far…

Wednesday will mark the 37th meeting between the two sides, with Glory having enjoyed 16 wins to City’s 10 thus far.

Glory have scored 58 goals, City 48 and there have only ever been two goalless draws (in 2010 and 2020).

If You Don’t Shoot…

Bruno Fornaroli has taken 32 shots so far this season which is over three times more than any other Glory player.

The Uruguayan has hit the target with 15 of those and five have gone in.

Four out of five ain’t bad…

Four of the five all-time top scorers in this fixture are or were Glory players.

Bruno Fornaroli (9), Shane Smeltz (8), Diego Castro (7) and Andy Keogh (5) are the men in question, while City’s representative is former Glory striker Jamie Maclaren (9).

Mac Attack

Jamie Maclaren remains City’s go-to man in front of goal again this year having already found the net on 10 occasions.

He’s been ably supported by Matthew Leckie who has scored five and Andrew Nabbout who has bagged four.

City Slickers

City have taken a league-high 232 shots so far this term, with an accuracy percentage of 35.8 which is the third-best in the competition.

Their return of 29 goals makes them the A-League’s current top scorers.

Familiar Faces

Two of the top seven in the all-time A-League record-appearances list are likely to be in action on Wednesday in the form of Glory’s Liam Reddy and City’s Scott Jamieson.

The former has played 329 games, the latter 288 (56 of which were for Glory).
