Stat Attack: Wanderers v Glory

The countdown to Wednesday’s ISUZU UTE A-League clash with Western Sydney Wanderers is well and truly on which means you need to be tucking into a pre-match stats smorgasbord generously seasoned with trivia and glazed with historical context.

Bon Appetit!

Handy Andy

Glory’s leading all-time A-League goalscorer Andy Keogh has found the net 10 times in 15 appearances against Wanderers.

That makes them his joint-favourite opponents along with Brisbane Roar.

Goals Galore!

The last eight meetings between the two sides have produced a total of 28 goals, an average of 3.5 per game.

Of those eight clashes, Glory have won five, Wanderers one and there were two draws.

For Starters

Bruno Fornaroli and Darryl Lachman are now the only two Glory players to have started every game this season.

John Koutroumbis, Tomas Mejias, Steven Ugarkovic, Adama Traore and Thomas Aquilina have done likewise for Western Sydney.

Hit-man Hemed

Former Wellington Phoenix striker Tomer Hemed is the only player to have scored more than once for Wanderers thus far this term.

In total, the Israeli international has found the net 13 times in 27 A-League appearances.

Purple and red and black

Rhys Williams and Daniel Margush are the only former Glory men currently on Wanderers’ books, but a host of players have represented both clubs over the years, including Jack Clisby, Jonathan Aspropotamitis, Nikolai Topor-Stanley, Brendon Santalab, Scott Neville, Ante Covic and Mitch Nicholls.

Sydney Seniors

Western Sydney have the second-oldest squad in the A-League (behind Western United) with an average age of 28.7.

Glory’s average age is 27.9, placing the club fifth-highest in this category.

In The Nick Of Time

Glory’s first ever A-League goal against Western Sydney was scored by Nick Ward in December 2012.

The two sides fought out a 1-1 draw in Perth, Ward securing a point for the hosts with an 87th-minute finish after Labinto Haliti had given the red-and-blacks a first-half lead.
