Srhoj was dynamite in midfield, the 27 year old dictating play and delivering to his strikers with precision while also pushing forward himself and menacing Jess Vanstratten in United-s goal.
While the media shy midfielder doesn-t attract big headlines his talent sends all the right messages and sets the tone for Perth-s performances.
“Wayne is a very important player and when he plays well we seem to tick,” said Perth Coach Dave Mitchell.
“The last couple of weeks he felt he hadn-t played as well as he would have liked but in a good team performance against Gold Coast he shined.
“You could see that when he’s at the top of his game it gives us plenty of drive. He is understated but has a bucketful of talent that makes him a dangerous proposition.”
A national representative at junior level, including Australia-s U17 and U20 World Cup campaigns in 1999 and 2001, Srhoj is yet to receive a senior cap but consistent performances like that against Gold Coast will make national team selectors sit-up and take notice.
Of more immediate concern however is securing a second championship with the Glory. Srhoj was part of the club-s 2003-04 NSL Grand Final winning side, before departing to test his skills overseas, and is a key component in a squad chasing their first title in the Hyundai A-League.
“There has never been any doubt about Wayne-s talent and after a good pre-season and plenty of hard work under his belt he is showing that on a consistent basis.
“The exciting part is that he can still get better. I think he is feeling comfortable working alongside Jacob Burns the pair have formed a great partnership and that understand between them is paying dividends for the club,” Mitchell said.
