With the team currently based at altitude of 1200m in Rustenburg, the players were eased into their workloads after a grueling travel schedule on Sunday.
In the stunning surrounds of the Royal Marang – one of the facilities used by England during the 2010 FIFA World Cup – the players began the day with weights and stretching at the Kgosi Leruo high performance centre.
The Royal Marang is considered one of the best sports resorts in South Africa and was dubbed ‘fantabulous’ by midfielder Steven McGarry.
Following the gym, the players were taken through their paces with a sharp ball session while the goal keepers were trained separately by ‘keeper coach Jonathan Gould.
With a tough day tomorrow, the afternoon was dedicated to team building and a trip to a safari park.
The brilliant tour got the players up close with Zebras, Giraffes and Springboks and the night was finished with a South African BBQ.
The spirits of the group are excellent, and the focus now is clearly on an intense fortnight of training, highlighted by three games.
The first game will be on Wednesday against local Premier League side Platinum Stars FC. Ian Ferguson got his first look at the locals today, with Platinum training on fields close to the Royal Merang.
Platinum are expected to provide excellent opposition with South Africa’s Premier League starting on August 13.
