Youngsters’ unbeaten start ended by Perth SC

The PGFC Academy First Team’s unbeaten start to the NPL WA season came to an end on Saturday as they were edged out 2-1 by Perth SC at Dorrien Gardens.

Following a goalless first half, John Walmsley’s side hit the front shortly after the restart when Corey Sutherland pounced on a loose ball in the box and fired home his fourth goal in as many games.

Perth SC hit back almost immediately, however, as Sam Cook converted from the spot after Federico Achilli had been brought down on the edge of the box.

Glory were then dealt a further blow when Sutherland’s challenge on Johnny Perkins earned him a second yellow and although they dug deep in the latter stages, the ten men’s resistance was eventually broken right at the death as Jeremie Mba netted on the rebound to win it for the hosts.

There was better news for the Under-18s who secured a 2-1 win (goals from Bolton and Baker), while the Under-20s suffered their first defeat of the season as they went down 2-1 (Montgomery).

All three teams are on the road again on Saturday as they take on Inglewood United at Inglewood Stadium (kick-off times TBC, but expected to be the regular Under-18s at 11am, Under-20s at 1pm and First Team at 3pm.
