Young Socceroos midfielder signs on loan

Perth Glory is delighted to confirm that Young Socceroos central midfielder Zach Duncan has joined the club on a season-long loan from Danish Superliga side, AGF.

The 22-year-old is a former captain of the Brisbane Roar youth team who made his A-League debut for the Queenslanders in 2019 and completed a move to Denmark later that same year.

Duncan has subsequently chalked up 27 appearances for AGF across all competitions and Glory Head Coach Ruben Zadkovich is confident that he can make a positive impact upon his return to the A-League.

“Zac is a player that has a lot of positive attributes which will enhance our team with and without the ball,” he said.

“He is a natural ball-winner and has the technical ability to match.

“I’m looking forward to seeing him shine back in the A-League and am very excited to play a part in his development as a player and a person.”

Glory’s Head of Recruitment, Andy Keogh, is similarly thrilled to have the new recruit on board.

“We’re over the moon to get this across the line,” he said.

“Zach is a young player with huge potential.

“AGF rate him very highly and I’m delighted they have agreed for us to help develop their player.

“It’s a move that came about quickly and thanks to the professionalism of [Player Agent] Buddy Farah, it was completed in a matter of 48 hours.

“We’re excited to see Zach back in our beautiful country and especially in WA.”

Born in Sydney, Duncan played his junior football at Marconi Stallions, Sydney Olympic and the Football New South Wales NTC and was later a part of the youth set up at both Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers.

But it was following a 2018 move to Brisbane Roar that he really rose to prominence, skippering the club’s youth team to the Y-League Championship before making his A-League debut in March 2019 and scoring his maiden senior goal a month later against Newcastle Jets.

He was snapped up by AGF almost immediately after breaking into the Roar first-team and to cap a memorable 2019, earned his first Young Socceroos cap in November.

The midfielder’s first taste of Superliga football, meanwhile, came in August 2019 against Lyngby BK and AGF lost only one of the first eight games in which he featured.

Further signing announcements will be made shortly.
