Glory’s Brandon Wilson has been named in the Australia Under-23 squad set to take part in next month’s 2018 AFC U23 Championship.

And the club could have another player involved in the form of 16-year-old Jacob Italiano who has been placed on standby.

The tournament will be held in China’s Jiangsu Province and Ante Milicic’s side have been drawn in Group D where they will face Syria (January 11), Vietnam (January 14) and Korea Republic (17 January), with all three games taking place at the Kunshan Stadium.

23 players have been named in the squad, with a maximum of three per club to minimise the impact upon the Hyundai A-League during what is a busy period of the domestic season.

Milicic will gather his squad in China in early January for a preparatory camp, which will include an international friendly against Thailand in Shanghai on January 6.

“This squad features a mix of European and (Hyundai) A-League-based players who will have the opportunity to show their quality both individually and collectively,” he explained.

“This group will realise huge benefits in their development by playing against some of the best teams in their age in Asia.

“Playing in and adapting to Asia will present many challenges, but we know the players will improve for these experiences.

“With a FIFA World Cup just six months away, this is the ideal opportunity for these players to impress.”

A top-two finish in Group D will be required to propel Australia into the quarter finals and if they progress beyond that stage, Wilson could be set to celebrate his 21st birthday in China.
