Perth Glory is pleased to announce the re-signing of promising young midfielder Brandon Wilson.
The 21-year-old has put pen to paper on a new two-year-deal despite interest from a number of other clubs around the Hyundai A-League.
The Botswana-born, Perth-raised player has made 37 appearances for Glory, including 23 starts, since moving from Premier League outfit Burnley in 2016.
Wilson’s work-ethic, endurance and range of passing in the A-League last season saw him earn a call-up to Ante Milicic’s U-23 Australian squad for the 2018 Asian Cup in China where he was a standout performer.
Wilson, who has been outstanding for Glory’s NPL side during their trailblazing campaign, was quick to cite the influence of new Head Coach Tony Popovic for his new contract.
“I think the biggest thing for me was Popovic signing on,” he said.
“I spoke with him and he said he wants me at the club, he wants to teach me and improve my game, which was great to hear. Popovic’s understanding of the game is exceptional, he’s very supportive of young players as well, which is massive.
“Another major factor for me is the fans, they’re unreal every week and it’s always great to play in front of them.”
The number 15 is determined to improve on last season’s results and firmly believes success is just around the corner for Perth.
“I think with a coach like Popovic and the team we have here, we should be looking to win silverware, that should be the goal for everybody at the club.”
Football Director Jacob Burns insists Wilson will “thrive under Popovic’s structure and style of coaching.”
“It’s a great move by the club to secure his signature as he’s shown talent and potential which I believe will continue to develop in the next few seasons with us at Glory.
“Wilson is one of a number of young fantastic Perth players with exciting futures in front. I think they will all relish working under Popovic.”
Further player announcements are expected in the very near future.
