Some of the Hyundai A-League-s biggest stars are set to clash this Sunday when Perth Glory visit Melbourne Victory on Sunday afternoon.
With both sides stacked with marquee men, the game promises to be an explosive encounter!
Smeltz v Thompson
Shane Smeltz and Archie Thompson are the Hyundai A-League-s hottest strikers.
In stunning careers, Thompson has scored 56 goals and Smeltz 52 in the competition to lead the way …
Both men have scored three times this season.
“It-s not about me and Archie,” Smeltz said.
“Archie is a great striker and you never know what he will produce.”
Sterjovski v Kewell
Mile Sterjovski and Harry Kewell are 2006 FIFA World Cup team mates, forwards who can dominate games and Australian stars.
Sterjovski was at his best when he came on against Sydney on the weekend while Kewell needs to prove his fitness after hamstring tightness he sustained playing for the Socceroos against Oman on Saturday night.
“Kewell is receiving ongoing treatment,” Victory said in a statement on Tuesday.
“Harry arrived back in Melbourne … to receive individual treatment from Melbourne Victory medical staff and will be given every chance to prove his fitness ahead of Sunday’s clash.”
Vukovic v Covic
The battle of the two goalkeepers, Danny Vukovic and Ante Covic will be pivotal.
Both keepers have started the season in top form.
Vukovic almost became a goal scorer against Sydney when he came forward for a corner in the final few minutes, his header forcing a great save from Liam Reddy.
Covic, returns from a one-game suspension.
The blockbuster from Etihad stadium, Melbourne kicks-off 2pm on Sunday.
