Glory’s Westfield W-League fixtures for the 2019/20 have been released, with Bobby Despotovski’s side set to play three of their first four games at Dorrien Gardens.
The women in purple did, of course, reach the Grand Final last term having eliminated Premiers Melbourne Victory in the semis and the core of that 2018/19 squad will be representing the club once again in 2019/20.
First on the agenda is a tough trip to Canberra United where Glory have never won, but did pick up a precious point last year having staged a remarkable comeback after trailing 4-1 with just eight minutes left.
A bye follows that assignment in the nation’s capital before that run of three home games at Dorrien Gardens which starts with a mouth-watering Grand Final re-match against Sydney FC on Sunday 1 December.
Newcastle Jets are the visitors the following Saturday and then it’s the return clash with Canberra on Friday 13 December.
After a trip to Melbourne City in Round 6, Glory round off 2019 by hosting Melbourne Victory on Saturday 28 December, before starting the New Year with a Round 8 trip to Adelaide United.
Their travels continue after a second bye, with a pair of Hyundai A-League/Westfield W-League double-headers at Western Sydney and Newcastle completing January’s set of fixtures.
The final quarter of the campaign, meanwhile, starts with a home game against Brisbane Roar in Round 12, followed by another meeting with Sydney FC and the last regular-season match-up will see Western Sydney head to WA on Saturday 29 February.
Head Coach Despotovski is philosophical about the draw and adamant that his charges are well equipped to deal with the challenges that lie ahead.
“The fixtures are what they are,” he said, “and like every year, FFA have a difficult job to try and satisfy everyone.
“We have the three home games in a row early in the season and it will be nice not to have to travel for three weeks, but in saying that, we will be doing everything we can to get as many points as possible both home and away.”
