Glory’s pre-season campaign resumes on Wednesday evening when they take on the WA State Team at Inglewood’s Perth Plasterboard Centre Stadium (kick off at 7pm, admission FREE).
The traditional showdown with a select eleven drawn from the NPL and State League has produced some fine contests in recent times, including last year’s hard-fought 1-1 draw at Forrestfield.
And club Football Director Jacob Burns is expecting another solid hit-out.
“It’s another great opportunity to get some more match minutes into the players,” he said.
“It’s our last run-out before we take on Victory in the FFA Cup, so the lads will be looking to stake a claim in the starting side for that game.
“Everyone has been working extremely hard at training and it’s good to have another chance to try and put into practice what they’ve been working on.
“Hopefully plenty of our members and fans will come along to see not only the senior Glory players, but also our younger lads who have been performing so well in the NPL and the State squad which contains some of the best talent from the local competitions.”
The State Team is likely to include a number of figures familiar to Glory fans, notably Cameron Edwards, Gian Albano, Calvin Whitney and David Micevski, all of whom have featured for the club’s senior or youth teams at some stage, while the State League’s sole representative is Gwelup Croatia’s Benny Kouakou.
Former Glory legend Jamie Harnwell will be in charge of the men in black and gold.
Following Wednesday’s game, Popovic’s men will return to action in the FFA Cup against Melbourne Victory at Dorrien Gardens on Tuesday 7th August before departing for a two-game trip to Sarawak in Malaysia two days later.
