TOP FOUR CUP GLORY FOR U18S AND U20S

There were celebrations galore at Dorrien Gardens on Saturday as the PGFC Academy Under-18s and Under-20s both rounded off remarkable seasons by adding the Top Four Cup to their league titles.

Bayswater City provided the opposition for the Under-18s and just as they did during the regular season when they fought out two draws, the two sides produced a tense, hard-fought battle.

The deadlock was eventually broken midway through the second half in controversial circumstances following a re-taken penalty.

Robert Sinclair saved Khoa Ngo’s first effort from the spot, only for the referee to penalise the City ‘keeper for coming off his line and order a re-take.

Sinclair then saved again as Ngo went the same way for a second time, but this time the Glory man reacted quickest to rifle home the loose ball.

That proved enough to earn victory for the younger age group and their 1-0 scoreline was subsequently replicated by the Under-20s in their clash with Perth RedStar.

The all-important goal arrived early in the piece, Joel Anasmo rising highest in a packed box to nod home a Daniel Bennie cross inside the opening two minutes.

RedStar, who replaced Perth SC as Glory’s opponents due to the latter fielding an ineligible player in the Elimination Final, applied some late pressure, but Ivan Zuvela’s side weathered the storm and claimed the spoils.

Many congratulations to everyone involved, to Football West on a fantastic Finals weekend and a huge thank you to our Members and fans who have supported the Academy teams at home and away all season.
