Teenage forward Bennie completes move to English Championship

Perth Glory can confirm that forward Daniel Bennie has completed a move to English Championship side Queens Park Rangers for an undisclosed fee.

The 18-year-old progressed through the ranks of the PGFC Academy before making his senior debut in last year’s friendly against West Ham United at Optus Stadium.

He went on to make 25 Isuzu UTE A-League appearances last season, scoring his maiden senior goal against Melbourne Victory in Round 22.

The Australia Under-17 international was quick to acknowledge the role that Glory has played in his development.

“I would like to thank everyone at Perth Glory for making my first professional season so enjoyable,” he said.

“To all the coaching staff and players, thank you all for the way you have treated me.

“I have come along in leaps and bounds learning from you all this season.

“And I’d also like to thank the fans for sticking with us all season.

“It’s been a honour playing in front of you and I wish the club all the best for next season.

“Thank you again.”

Glory CEO Anthony Radich, meanwhile, praised the way Bennie conducted himself during his spell in purple.

“This is a great opportunity for Daniel and one that he deserves for all the hard work that he has put in during his time with us,” he said.

“He is a very impressive young man with maturity beyond his years and we’re very proud of the role that our PGFC Academy has played in his development.

“We thank Daniel for his service to Perth Glory and wish him all the very best as he continues his football journey in England.”
