Stat Attack: Reds v Glory

Ah, the Reds.

It may not be a rivalry as such, given that the whole “Desert Derby” thing never took off, but it’s certainly a fixture that has regularly delivered on the drama and goals front in recent years.

We lock horns again on Sunday at Coopers Stadium, so how about some facts, figures and random historical trivia to get you in the mood?

The Three Amigos

The three top scorers in this fixture are all Glory players – Diego Castro, Bruno Fornaroli and Andy Keogh (7 goals).

Adelaide’s top scorer is Jeronimo Neumann with four, while Travis Dodd scored six across his spells with both clubs.

Goals, Goals, Goals!

The last nine regular-season and Finals meetings between the two clubs have yielded an aggregate of 38 goals at an average of 4.2 per game.

There have only been four 0-0 draws in the 50 games the two sides have played against each other since 2005.

Three More Amigos!

Adelaide’s trio of Spanish imports are all in the club’s top four for minutes played this season.

Javi Lopez (pictured) has played 1973 minutes, Isaias 1555 and former Glory man, Juande, 1528.

Young Guns

Following Chris Donnell and Jacob Muir’s A-League debuts on the club’s recent road trip, seven teenagers have now enjoyed minutes for Glory’s first team this season.

A further nine aged 23 or under have also featured.

Dan’s the Man!

Glory’s most recent visit to Coopers Stadium ended in a 2-1 victory in February of last year.

Daniel Stynes bagged the winner seven minutes from time after Bruno Fornaroli had cancelled out Stefan Mauk’s first-half opener for the hosts.

Good As Goals

Craig Goodwin is the Reds’ top scorer this term with nine goals.

In 18 appearances against Glory, however, he has only found the net twice and been on the winning side just four times.

Keeping It Clean

No Glory player has hit the suspension mark of five yellow cards as yet this year.

Giordano Colli, Antonee Burke-Gilroy and Bruno Fornaroli have all picked up four, while Mitch Oxborrow and Osama Malik are the two players who have been sent off.

Retro Red

Current Adelaide United Head Coach Carl Veart played for the Reds in their first ever A-League meeting with Glory.

The South Australians came from behind to win 2-1 in Perth after a Michael Valkanis own-goal had handed Glory the lead.
