Perth Glory FC would like to congratulate star defender Josh Risdon on being selected in the Socceroos 23-man squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Kyrgyzstan and Bangladesh next month.
The Bunbury born right back was last year selected in coach Ange Postecoglou’s provisional squad for January’s AFC Asian Cup, however this is the first time the 23-year old has been selected to take his place in an official capacity.
“I’m absolutely pumped. This is something I’ve been working on for a few years now and I’m really happy to have had my first call up” Risdon exclaimed.
Club CEO Peter Filopoulos said Risdon’s call-up was the result of many years of hard work.
“We are delighted that a home-grown player all the way from the State’s south-west has progressed through the WA development pathway through to the Perth Glory senior team. It’s a well deserved selection and a testament to Josh’s hard work and dedication and his achievements are a good example for all young and developing players to follow” he said.
The former Most Glorious Player (2012) has played 96 Hyundai A-League games for Perth since 2010, and last season led the league in tackles. So far this season, Risdon has created four goal scoring chances, which is among the best in the league for a defender.
Risdon will join his Socceroos team mates after the Westfield FFA Cup final (host venue to be announced tonight) is played on November 7.
The Socceroos face Kyrgyzstan at GIO stadium in Canberra on November 12 before heading to Dhaka to face Bangladesh at Bangabandhu National Stadium on November 17.
Due to his Socceroos commitments, Risdon will miss the RD 6 HAL clash against Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium on November 15.
