Western Australian football star Samantha Kerr has been called up to play with the Matildas in their clash against Italy on Saturday afternoon at Canberra Stadium.

The 16 year old Kardinya resident, and brother of West Coast Eagle Daniel, will be coming into the game fresh from a successful season with the Perth Glory Women-s team, and will be looking to impress in her first game with the full national side after an impressive inaugural Westfield W-League campaign.

Kerr has been steadily climbing the football ranks, playing for the Westfield Young Matildas U19 and U16 sides at the recent AFC Women-s Championship Qualifiers in Kuala Lumpur and the Perth Glory Women-s team, at just 15 years of age.

The talented winger netted one goal and three assists for the Glory in eight matches during the 2008/09 campaign and helped Perth to a barnstorming finish to the W-League season where the side just narrowly missed a playoff spot.

The Matildas and Italy drew 2-2 at Parramatta Stadium last Saturday in the first of their two match series.
