Perth Glory FC is pleased to announce that it has completed the signing of Australian midfielder Rostyn Griffiths on a contract that will keep him at the Club until the end of the 2014/15 Hyundai A-League season.

The 25-year old defensive midfielder is a former ECU Joondalup product who left Australia as a 15-year-old to develop his career at the Blackburn Rovers Youth academy.

Griffiths returns to the Hyundai A-League, where he enjoyed successful periods with the North Queensland Fury and the Central Coast Mariners, playing 71 games over four seasons and scoring seven goals.

The 187cm midfielder left the Mariners in 2012 for a stint in the Chinese Super League with Guangzhou R&F FC where he played 34 games and scored one goal. His signing at the time was reported to be $1.3 million and believed to be the highest transfer fee paid for a player from a Hyundai A-League club.

“Rostyn is a fantastic player who is composed on the ball and good in the air,“ Perth Glory Interim Head Coach Kenny Lowe said.

“We-re very excited to have such and an experienced, dynamic and powerful midfielder join our squad.”

“It-s also great to have another WA player returning home and is further proof we are setting up the right foundations at Perth Glory.”

“We now have an abundance of quality in the midfield area so it creates great competition for places in the team,” he added.

Griffiths has been training impressively with the rest of the Perth Glory squad for the past two weeks and will be available for selection against the Western Sydney Wanderers at Pirtek Stadium this Sunday.

“It-s great to be home and signing on for Perth Glory,” Griffiths said.

“I-ve had the pleasure of training with the rest of the Perth Glory squad for the past two weeks and I believe we have a really strong team that can achieve great things this season.”

Griffiths- signing follows that of Nebojša Marinkovic earlier this week and is the second signing by the club during the January transfer window.
