RedStar prove too strong for youngsters

RedStar prove too strong for youngsters

The PGFC Academy First Team endured a tough afternoon in the northern suburbs on Saturday, eventually going down 5-0 to Perth RedStar.

The youngsters looked bright in the opening moments of the NPL WA clash and went close to claiming an early lead through Ciaran Bramwell whose looping header floated narrowly over the bar.

But instead it was the hosts who hit the front in the 11th minute, Liam Murray playing a one-two with Andrew Higgins in the left channel before sidefooting past Cameron Cook.

There was little to choose between the two sides during the remainder of the first half, but once Ryan Lowry nodded home from a corner just before the hour-mark, RedStar pulled away.

Another header, this time from Daryl Nicol, soon made it 3-0 before substitute Ellis Healing helped himself to a brace in the space of six minutes to round out the scoring.

Glory came close to claiming a consolation right at the death, but substitute Tyler Vecchio saw his effort crash back off the crossbar.

The Academy Under-18s and Under-20s, meanwhile, enjoyed better fortunes on the day, both consolidating their positions at the top of their respective tables with 2-0 and 4-0 victories.

The First Team return to NPL WA action on Saturday when Cockburn City will provide the opposition at Crazy Domains Stadium at Hartfield Park (kick-off at 6pm).

The Under-18s and Under-20s, meanwhile, face Joondalup United in the State Cup at Wanneroo City SC on Wednesday evening (6pm and 8pm kick-offs) before taking on Cockburn City in the NPL WA at Crazy Domains Stadium on Saturday (2pm and 4pm kick-offs).
