Talented teenage midfield duo added to Glory ALW squad

Perth Glory is delighted to confirm that highly-rated young midfielders Ella Abdul-Massih and Sarah O’Donoghue have both joined the club for the 2024/25 A-Leagues Women’s season.

18-year-old Abdul-Massih has spent the last three seasons with Western Sydney Wanderers, making her senior debut against Melbourne Victory in December 2022 and taking her career tally of ALW appearances to 21 by featuring for the red-and-blacks on 12 occasions last term.

The winger has continued to impress in the NSW NPLW this year, scoring nine times for NWS Spirit FC and pressing her claims for a Young Matildas call-up in the process.

19-year-old O’Donoghue, meanwhile, arrives having spent last season with Brisbane Roar for whom she made her first ALW appearance in last season’s opening-round win over Melbourne Victory.

A Football Queensland Academy product, O’Donoghue is a technically accomplished central midfielder who first rose to prominence with Souths United in her native Brisbane and has most recently starred for Heidelberg United in the NPLW Victoria.

Glory Head Coach Stephen Peters is confident that both of the new recruits have what it takes to make a major impact in purple this season.

“Ella is a great young prospect who has been performing exceptionally well in the NPL NSW,” he said.

“We’re looking forward to giving her the opportunity to really fulfil her potential at Perth Glory.

“Sarah is similar in that she has absolutely taken the NPL Victoria by storm this season having had a bit of an ALW opportunity with Brisbane Roar.

“We now want to see her bring that NPL form into the A-League and we sure she is capable of doing that.”

Further signing announcements will be made shortly.
