Perth Glory defender Bas van den Brink has modestly rejected suggestions he is the teams key defensive player.

One of the Hyundai A-League-s true sportsmen, the Dutchman says he-s not the star of Perth Glory-s back-four.

“To be fair, I think that-s a little bit too much credit,” van den Brink said.

“The other boys are doing just as much hard work as I-m doing.

“If I can add a bit to the defence I-m happy, but I think we are equally important and doing our bit for the team.”

VDB has become a cult hero since joining Perth Glory this season with his impressive performances winning him high praise across the country.

“I was kind of surprised by all the positive comments because I think last season and the season before I did my best more or less as I did this season but I am obviously impressed with what I am doing.

“But I would rather have a bit more points at this stage of the league but maybe the next round we will get them.”

The next round is Saturday-s showdown in New Zealand against Wellington Phoenix. The two sides have already played once this season, in week 3 at nib Stadium, a game the Glory won 1-0.

Kick-off on Saturday is NOON, Perth time.

The Glory will fly to Wellington tomorrow (Thursday), via Brisbane.
