PGFC Academy Latest: First Team maintain unbeaten start with thrilling win

The PGFC Academy First Team maintained their unbeaten start to the NPL WA season in thrilling style on Saturday afternoon as they came from behind twice to down Armadale SC 4-3.

The tone was set for a classic clash inside the opening three minutes at the Sam Kerr Football Centre as Amir Ajan steered home a Charlie Fleming cross to give the visitors the lead.

Glory’s response was as impressive as it was immediate, however, Samuel Barry racing away down the right before cutting the ball back for Santiago Flores to fire home.

And Flores then bagged his and the home side’s second goal in quick order, this time inadvertently deflecting Barry’s shot into the net.

That completed the scoring for the first half, but Armadale roared back with goals either side of the hour-mark from Pieter Jacobsz to take a 3-2 lead.

Undaunted, John Walmsley’s youngsters restored parity ten minutes from the end of normal time courtesy of a composed finish from Khoa Ngo and in the shadows of full-time, fellow-substitute Sam Byrne bagged a dramatic winner with a cross-shot which sailed into the top corner.

That victory was enough to lift the First Team into second place on the NPL WA ladder, four points behind leaders Western Knights who secured their fourth win in as many games by edging out Balcatta Etna 2-1.

Prior to the First Team game, the Academy Under-18s and Under-20s also secured maximum points.

TadiswaShaun Mutyavaviri (2) and Tyler Nyabine again shared the goals for the 18s in a 3-0 victory, while Louis Sollitt (2), Chulu Johnson, Tinomuonga Mutema and William Ferson were all on target as the 20s cruised home 5-0.

Last weekend’s other results for the PGFC Academy teams were as follows:

U16s 3-1 W v Sorrento FC

U15s 2-1 W v Sorrento FC

U14s 1-1 D v Sorrento FC

U13s 1-0 L v Sorrento FC
