The PGFC Academy were edged out 1-0 by reigning NPL WA Premiers Perth RedStar in Saturday’s Regional Round clash at Geraldton’s Wonthella Oval.
John Walmsley’s side produced a determined performance against a RedStar outfit which featured a number of familiar figures including Liam Reddy, Bryce Bafford, Matthew George and Nick Walsh.
And Bafford was to have a hand in what proved to be the only goal of the game in the 70th minute, his shot being blocked on the line by Sean O’Connor before the ball rebounded out to Thomas Hough who rifled home from just inside the area.
In a game of few chances, Glory’s best efforts came from Royie Rahamim, who was denied by Reddy after meeting a Sam Barry cross and Sam Byrne, who fired over the bar late on having been teed up by Santi Flores.
The Academy Under-18s and Under-20s, meanwhile, will complete their respective fixtures against RedStar at the Sam Kerr Football Centre on Wednesday 22 May, with the games kicking off at 6pm (18s) and 8pm (20s).
All three teams will then return to the Sam Kerr Football Centre on Saturday to take on Stirling Macedonia, with a change to the traditional kick-off times for the U18s (10.30am) and U20s (12.30pm).
The First Team game will get underway as per usual at 3pm.
