PGFC Academy Latest: First Team edged out, but 18s and 20s claim maximum points

A well-taken goal from Jaylan Pearman was not enough to prevent the PGFC Academy First Team from tasting defeat on Saturday as they were edged out 2-1 by Fremantle City at Hilton Park.

City grabbed an early lead courtesy of a left-footed free-kick from Patrick Loughrey which flashed into the bottom corner of Robbie Cook’s net.

That setback prompted a period of sustained pressure from Glory, during which Luke Radonich was forced to make several fine saves.

But there was nothing the home ‘keeper could do to prevent Pearman from making it 1-1 just short of the half-hour, the midfielder striding onto a square ball 25m out from goal and arrowing home a stunning strike.

City restored their lead early in the second half when former Glory midfielder Cameron Edwards headed home from close range and with the hosts content to protect their hard-earned lead in the final half-hour, John Walmsley’s side were unable to find a way through.

Ahead of the First Team game, both the Under-18s and Under-20s continued their fine form by recording respective 2-1 and 4-1 victories.

Hudson Burn and Lucas Mura were on target for the younger age group, while Louis Sollitt grabbed a superb hat-trick and Tinomuonga Mutema also got on the scoresheet for the 20s.

The club’s Junior Academy teams, meanwhile, recorded the following results:

U-13s – W 1-0 v Floreat Athena
U-14s – L 0-1 v Floreat Athena
U-15s – D 0-0 v Floreat Athena
U-16s – W 4-1 v Floreat Athena

The return of the State League Cup next weekend means Round 3 action for the U18s and U20s, but another break from the NPL WA for the First Team.

The 18s will take on Fremantle City at Hilton Park once again, with a kick-off time of 10am and at the same venue, the U20s will face Quinns FC at 12.15pm.

Do get along and support the lads if you can.
