Perth Glory will make a special visit to the WA coastal town of Carnarvon from February 18-20.
The three-day trip, sponsored by Chevron Australia, is to support flood relief fundraising activities. A special game against the WA State team will be the highlight of the visit.
Perth Glory Chief executive Paul Kelly said the club has been keen to support Carnarvon since the town was devastated by floods in December.
“Unfortunately because of our schedule we haven-t had the chance to help the region as quickly as we would have liked,” Mr Kelly said.
“We are all saddened by the natural disasters across the country and feel deeply committed to assisting the people of Carnarvon.
“Without Chevron this trip would not be possible and I thank Chevron for their generosity to help rebuild the town of Carnarvon.
“We are proud to partner with Perth Glory to provide this unique opportunity to the community of the Carnarvon region, because at Chevron we are committed to contributing to the social and economic development of the communities where we work,” Chevron Australia Managing Director Roy Krzywosinski said.
“Our thoughts are with the people of Carnarvon and surrounding areas in the Gascoyne region who experienced major flooding recently. Chevron Australia is contributing to the Lord Mayor-s Distress Fund to support these communities who have a long road ahead of them as they rebuild their towns and livelihoods.”
Local MP Vincent Catania MLA said he was thrilled by the Glory-s willingness to make a difference.
“This is the first time that Perth Glory has visited our Gascoyne Community. As well as assisting flood relief fundraising efforts, the visit will generate a great deal of excitement and give the community a much needed lift.
“I have been truly heartened by the responsiveness and willingness of people to contribute their time and money to this project”.
