Perth Glory FC star Danny De Silva has been given an official send off from his former teammates as he heads off on his European football adventure.

The 18-year old will fly to Melbourne this week to team up with his new club, AS Roma, for the International Champions Cup.

De Silva was presented with a framed Perth Glory shirt by coach, Kenny Lowe, marking his time at his home town club.

“Obviously coming back down to where it all began for me, seeing all the boys again and getting a beautiful send off from all the lads, it’s a little special moment for me and it prepares me for the next adventure ahead,” he said.

“It’s starting to really hit home, but you know, I’m really excited and looking forward to what the future has in store.”

The 18-year old has earnt an impressive number of International caps at varying levels during his short career, most recently, a call up to Ange Postecoglou’s Socceroo’s side for a World Cup qualifier against Kyrgyzstan in May.

“It was fantastic to be a part of that. I was really stoked when I got picked and to meet all the boys and to be a part of the Socceroos and what the plans are for the future”.

“Hopefully I’ll play well for Roma and get another call up for the Socceroos. But that’s all in the future, and that’s up to me. I just have to keep working hard,” he said.

Since making his debut as a 15-year-old in Glory’s 2-1 win over an Alessandro Del Piero-inspired Sydney FC in March 2013, De Silva has represented Glory 32 times, scoring on 3 occasions.

The most notable of those goals came against the Central Coast Mariners in Round 11 of the 2014-15 Hyundai A-League season.

Just two months since donning purple for the last time, De Silva expressed his excitment at the prospect of rubbing shoulders with some of football’s elite on a daily basis in the Italian capital.

“It’ll be fantastic for me be able to learn off them, obviously I’ve already been learning off some of the great players in the Socceroo’s but to learn off some of the world’s best players like Totti, De Rossi, Gervinho – all those players, it’ll be fantastic for me and it’ll help my football develop as well.”

Everyone at Perth Glory FC wishes Danny well for his next footballing adventure.
