NPL Preview: Youngsters eyeing happy homecoming

The PGFC Academy First Team will be targeting a happy homecoming on Friday night when they take on Floreat Athena at Lark Hill (kick-off at 7pm).

John Walmsley’s side have spent the last month on the road, picking up six points from their visits to Perth RedStar, Olympic Kingsway, Stirling Macedonia and Sorrento FC (Regional Round game played in Albany) and in doing so, maintaining their spot at the right end of what is a very congested NPL WA table.

Victory on Friday evening would see them move level on points with current leaders Stirling Macedonia ahead of the rest of the weekend’s games and maintain their 100% record at their new Rockingham home this term.

Standing in their way will be a Floreat outfit which has surprisingly struggled this season and is currently sitting bottom of the table.

They did, however, manage to snap a run of five consecutive defeats by securing a hard-fought 0-0 draw at Balcatta Etna last weekend.

The other Academy senior sides, meanwhile, are in action against their Floreat counterparts at Lark Hill on Saturday, with the Under-18s getting underway at 9am, followed by the Under-20s at 11am.

The Under-18s remain in pole position in their competition having secured nine wins and one draw from their opening ten games, scoring a remarkable 58 goals in the process and the Under-20s, who has won seven of their nine fixtures, are sitting second behind Perth SC.

Do get along and support the lads on Friday and Saturday if you can – admission is FREE.
