Dalmatinac Park could be the scene of a double celebration on Saturday, with the PGFC Academy Under-18s and Under-20s both set to clinch their respective NPL WA league titles if they get the better of hosts Cockburn City and results elsewhere go their way.
After blitzing Olympic Kingsway 6-1 in Tuesday night’s catch-up game at Lark Hill, the 20s extended their lead over second-placed Perth SC to seven points with three matches left to play.
As a result, Glory will claim the title if they down the Cockerels and Perth SC fail to collect three points from their home date with Olympic Kingsway.
The equation for the 18s is very similar, with their eight-point lead over Sorrento FC meaning that a win on Saturday, coupled with the Gulls not getting the better of Inglewood United, would be enough to see the silverware secured.
With the Matildas taking on France in the quarter-finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup at 3pm, all three of the NPL fixtures at Dalmatinac Park have been brought forward, meaning the 18s will start at 9am, the 20s at 11am and the First Team at 1pm.
The First Team head into their clash looking to build upon what was a dramatic 3-3 draw with Inglewood United a fortnight ago.
A victory for John Walmsley’s side would see them climb above Cockburn and potentially as high as seventh place in a table which remains incredibly congested.
This season’s first clash between the two sides produced a thrilling 5-4 win for Glory at Lark Hill, with Joel Anasmo bagging two of the goals and Josh Anasmo, James Overy and Jayden Gorman also getting on the scoresheet.
