NPL Preview: First Team out to clip Gulls’ wings

The PGFC Academy First Team will be targeting a return to the top half of the NPL WA table when they host Sorrento FC at Lark Hill on Saturday (kick-off at 3pm, admission FREE).

John Walmsley’s side were unable to build upon their big win over Bayswater City as they were edged out by Perth SC in a seven-goal thriller last weekend, but will be bolstered by the fact that they got the better of Sorrento when the two sides met in the Regional Round back in May.

Since then, both sides have been somewhat inconsistent and the Gulls currently sit one point and two places above Glory in the table.

Evergreen striker Gustavo Miron Maralunda is enjoying yet another impressive season for Saturday’s visitors, having helped himself to nine goals, while Dean Cummings has chipped in with six, two of which came against Glory in the reverse fixture.

The hosts, meanwhile, will be hoping that Matt George can continue his impressive run of form which has seen him score four times in the last two games.

Ahead of the First Team game, the Under-20s will be out to consolidate top-spot after recording a potentially crucial 2-0 win over second-placed Perth SC last time out and the Under-18s will also shore up pole position in their league should they pick up what would be an eighth successive victory.

The Under-18s’ game gets underway at 11am, followed by the Under-20s at 1pm and the First Team at 3pm.

Do get along to support the lads if you can.
