NPL Preview: Academy First Team aim to bounce back against Baysie

The PGFC Academy First Team will be seeking to recapture their early-season form on Saturday when they welcome Bayswater City to Lark Hill (kick-off 3pm, admission FREE).

John Walmsley’s side have been in indifferent form in recent weeks and found themselves on the wrong end of a 4-0 scoreline against Armadale SC last time out.

They can, however, take some solace from the fact that they came back from 3-0 down to secure a 3-3 draw with Bayswater when the two sides met at Frank Drago Reserve back in Round 3.

City, meanwhile, will make the trip south winless in their last five outings, a run of results which has seen them slip down to seventh place in what remains a remarkably congested NPL WA table.

The visitors’ squad is likely to contain a number of familiar faces, including Cameron Edwards, Steven Hesketh, Jordan Abrahams, Sam Mitchinson and Andrew Maranta.

Ahead of the First Team game, the Under-20s will be looking to secure a third victory in seven days having cruised past Armadale SC in the league last weekend, before thumping Sorrento FC 5-0 in Wednesday’s State League Reserves Cup Semi-Final.

Despite having won 11 of their 13 NPL games thus far this term, Ivan Zuvela’s league leaders are only separated from second-placed Perth SC by virtue of their superior goal difference in what is developing into a potentially incredible tussle for the title.

The Under-18s are also remain in pole position in their competition having taken their goal tally for the season to 73 with an 8-0 victory over Armadale last weekend.

Their game will get Saturday’s action underway at 11am, followed by the Under-20s at 1pm and the First Team at 3pm.

Do get along and support the lads if you can.
