NPL Latest: Academy First Team share spoils in thriller

The PGFC Academy First Team were involved in another high-scoring NPL WA thriller on Saturday, this time battling out a 3-3 draw with Inglewood United at Lark Hill.

Late drama and stunning comebacks have been a regular feature in games involving John Walmsley’s side this season and the Round 19 clash proved no exception as both teams’ fortunes ebbed and flowed throughout.

It was Inglewood who seized the early initiative, stretching out to a 2-0 first-half lead courtesy of a neat finish from Anthony Bafobusha and Subham Mokala’s stunning long-range strike.

Glory duly clawed their way back into the contest via Giordano Colli’s 73rd-minute penalty, however and the A-League midfielder had the hosts level soon after via an audacious chip from a tight angle.

When substitute Jayden Gorman poked home from close-range in the first minute of stoppage-time, it looked as if the comeback was complete, but instead there was to be yet another late twist in the tale.

A long ball into the box prompted a scramble which culminated in Trent Ostler being adjudged to have fouled Harry Evans and Mokala converted nervelessly from the spot to complete the scoring.

All three teams will return to action in a fortnight’s time (Saturday 12 August) with a visit to Dalmatinac Park to take on Cockburn City.
