New recruit set to feature in Cup clash

Head Coach Kenny Lowe is poised to hand new signing Jake Brimmer his Glory debut in Tuesday night’s Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 tie with Heidelberg United.

Having finalised his move to the club on Monday, the 19-year-old former Liverpool midfielder trained with his new teammates for the first time before heading to the airport for the flight to Melbourne.

And Lowe is keen to field the young prospect in the eagerly-anticipated Olympic Village clash.

“It’ll be good to integrate Jake into the team,” he said.

“It’s a great opportunity for him to come in straight away and he’s very excited about it.

“We’re delighted to have him on board because he’s a very good player with bags of potential and it’ll be great to see him progress.”

Lowe is expecting a stern test from Heidelberg who are currently three points clear at the top of the PS4 NPL Victoria table and warmed up for Glory’s visit with an impressive 4-2 win over title rivals Bentleigh Greens on Friday.

“They are absolutely flying at the moment and are full of confidence,” he said, “so it will be a difficult game.

“We’ve done our homework as we always do and it would obviously be great for us to get the win and extend our pre-season by securing another competitive game.

“The Westfield FFA Cup is a competition that we have always taken seriously right from the outset, as our record of having made two finals and the last 16 indicates.

“And we’ll be out to maintain that impressive record on Tuesday night.”

The home side are set to include former Glory midfielder Adrian Zahra and ex-Melbourne Victory defender Steven Pace in their line-up, along with top-scorer Ken Athiu who has 15 goals to his name so far this term.

The game will be televised live on Fox Sports and kick off time is 5.30pm AWST.
