New Director appointed as part of PGFC Academy restructuring

Perth Glory can confirm that the club has undertaken a restructuring of the PGFC Academy which is effective immediately.

As part of the restructuring, Dom Gangemi has been appointed Academy Director and Ivan Zuvela will take over as First Team Head Coach, replacing John Walmsley and Stephen Walmsley who have departed the club.

Perth Glory would like to sincerely thank John and Stephen for their service and dedication to the club and wish them all the very best for the future.

New Academy Director Gangemi is an UEFA “A” Licence- accredited coach who was trained at the famous and prestigious Coverciano Technical Centre, the home of the Italian national teams and has worked extensively as the head coach of pro and semi-pro senior and junior teams in Italy and in Australia.

He was also formerly a Technical Director of clubs in both NPL Victoria and NPL WA and has been employed as an Academy Coach, Scout and club representative by prominent Italian Serie A side, Atalanta.

Zuvela, meanwhile, has worked extensively within the PGFC Academy for a number of years, guiding the Under-18s and Under-20s to regular silverware in both league and cup competitions.

A WA State Team and Melbourne Knights representative during his playing days, Zuvela was Head Coach of Western Knights prior to joining the PGFC Academy and in 2020, was named Football West State League Coach of the Year.

The appointments of Gangemi and Zuvela will facilitate the alignment of the Academy’s playing and coaching philosophy with the overarching Perth Glory club strategy under the guidance of the Football Director and the A-League Men’s Head Coach.
