A series of missed chances have proved costly as Perth Glory suffered a 3-2 loss away to Adelaide United at Hindmarsh Stadium.

While the Reds raced to a 3-nil lead one minute after half-time, it’s a result Perth will rue after squandering a number of first half chances doubled by some defensive errors.

Steven McGarry, Shane Smeltz, Liam Miller and Travis Dodd were all denied by a combination of the post, brilliant goal-keeping and desperate defending.

While Perth Glory failed to make the most of their chances, Adelaide made the visitors pay with substitute Jeronimo Nuemann scoring twice.

After coming on in the third minute, Nuemann netted his first goal on 28 minutes when he pounced on a failed clearance to finish from close range.

Nuemann then scored his second 9 minutes later when he latched onto a brilliant through ball by Dario Vidosic.

Ian Raimsey made it 3-0 straight after the break when he sweetly volley home the first corner of the second half.

Perth continued to press forward and create chances but the brilliant reflexes of Galekovic kept them at bay.

The Reds ‘keeper was at his best on 67 minutes when he tipped Smeltz goal bound shot over for a corner.

Smeltz eventually got on the score sheet in the 89th minute when he converted a penalty after Anthony Golec had fouled him in the area.

McGarry then gave Perth Glory a glimmer in the 92nd minute with a unstoppable shot past Galekovic but time beat Perth to an equalizer.
